Well Behaved Women: Brea’s Remarkable Women Making History

Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “well behaved women seldom make history.” It was coined by Laura Thatcher Ulrich, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Harvard Professor in 1976. Ulrich was told by others in academia that women’s lives were not interesting, and she should stop wasting her time researching “the silent work of the ordinary.” She did not and went on to show that women’s lives and their work were anything but ordinary.

This exhibit highlights the lives of Brea’s remarkable women and the extraordinary contributions they made to our city. Follow the QR code on the gallery exhibit to read more about each woman. Maybe you know of a remarkable Brea woman not in the exhibit. Please fill out the form below to nominate her.

Simply include your contact information and a few words about the women you believe should be included.
