Help us save our legacy
The Brea Progress is an excellent primary source for historic research & we have issues dating back to 1911.
Sadly, some are in critically unstable condition. More problematic, these copies are NOT digitally preserved anywhere in the state so the copies we have must be digitized to preserve this priceless resource. Make no mistake; this is a tremendous project as several thousands of sheets are rapidly deteriorating so we need your help.
An eagle scout designed, built, and installed a photographic workstation in the archive where we can safely photograph each sheet of newspaper for digital preservation. OCR will be added to make each digital sheet key-word searchable. This will enable us to keep the project in house, keep the costs down, and never lose access to these precious resources.
Your donations to this project will help us purchase a new camera (see what we have selected here), archival materials for proper storage of the original prints, and minimal staffing fees. We appreciate your support and help.
You can donate here or contact us at the museum to see how you can help save Brea’s recorded history.
