In 1924 Brea Trustees took the first steps to secure the land for the future site for a city park and buildings to house the city government. After some negotiating, the city purchased the land from Union Oil Co. for $30,393.82. While the land was purchased rather quickly, the building took several years of bids before construction was finally begun and in January 1929 Brea had a new city hall. City government, the fire department, and the OC Branch Library quickly took up residence. The building also housed the city jail, municipal judge’s office, the water department, banquet rooms and the Chamber of Commerce. As the city continued to grow, it was time for government to find new offices. In 1980 the city government moved into a new home on Birch St.
For 90 years this building has served the community and residents of our city. Today, you can find the Brea Lions Club and our local Boys Scouts at 401 S. Brea Blvd.
